Understanding Your Body

With eyes closed, the blood floats and we sleep
specks of biology sing a lullaby, seeds and cells
dreams that prick flesh, cold sweats as each breath
enter nostrils
every morning they fly away, landing in space
on the moon listening to us swallow
talking with Mom, or ourselves
as we brush teeth, wipe our bottom wondering
how time passes between sickness pain, the satisfaction of nutrients
entering the stream and converting
one animal to bones
to a laugh and cockerel cry
honking and mooing, mumbling pop songs
clapping with contractions of muscles
aching with our eyes closed, inhaling the cooler autumn air
crunching the apple with teeth
squeezing the glutes
a delicate system fuzzy,peep
at bedtime they land in my eyes
and my body sleeps.
